The English placement requirement may be satisfied by meeting one of the options below. If none of these apply to you, you will need to complete the English placement essay.

• Satisfactory cumulative high school GPA for 
  • Current high school students in grades 11 or 12 only
  • High school graduates (within the last five years)
• Satisfactory SAT or ACT scores (within the last five years)
• ACCUPLACER WritePlacer score (within the last five years)
• Earned associate degree, bachelor’s degree or higher
• Grade of C or better in college-level English from an accredited institution 
• Grade of C or better in developmental English within the last two years at an Ohio community college or university

Students who meet one or more of the criteria above will be placed as follows:

The English Placement Test is a chance to show your writing skills.  Your essay will be evaluated by a faculty reader who will assign an English course placement.  Students can choose to complete the placement test remotely, via email, or in-person at a Campus Testing Center.  

To place you in the English class that will best meet your needs and ensure your success, please submit a sample of your own original writing. Please do not use AI paraphrasing tools such as QuillBot or AI text-generating software (including but not limited to ChatGPT). If you do, the College's AI detection software will flag the paper, and you may be asked to retake your placement test.

Using the words and ideas of others without proper attribution is called plagiarism. Using outside sources for this essay in any manner would be considered academic dishonesty. Student essays may be checked for plagiarism by a plagiarism-detection program. Should your work be plagiarized, it will not be accepted.
